SSUSA National Cup – A Family Affair

 Father/Son pair headed to Philadelphia

Larry Webb was introduced to Street Soccer USA as a student at the VOA Mather Community campus. At that time in his life, Larry was recovering from homelessness, a direct result of his drug and alcohol addictions which had also resulted in him being separated from his children for seven years. While at the Mather Community campus, Webb practiced with Street Soccer USA and watched others achieve many accomplishments all of which inspired him to stay connected to the program.

Over time, Larry’s commitment to the program led to his support of other participants and created a community which he credits with helping him achieve his goals of regaining employment and housing and being reunited with his children. One of Larry’s children, Christopher, who had returned home after nine years, was also seeking an outlet so Larry introduced him to SSUSA. Larry and his fiance were excited to see positive changes in Christopher as a result of his participation almost immediately – last year he not only participated in the National Cup in Philadelphia, but Christopher was also nominated and participated in the Homeless World Cup in Scotland.

It is with great gratitude and a humble heart that Larry will have the opportunity to participate with Christopher and the Sacramento Street Soccer team in Philadelphia for the 2017 National Cup. “Not only does it mean a lot to Christopher and myself, but also to the coaches, the people that have participated and supported the opportunity for us to be part of such a great community,” said Larry. “We are believers and achievers, learning how to be leaders and building a legacy, to say the least… Saying thank you to Street Soccer USA is definitely an understatement. Special thanks to the coaches of the Sacramento Mohawks, Robert Stanley, Steve Mullen and Chris Rich and to Lisa Wrightsman and Tiffany Frasier for always being there and being supportive.”
