Player of the Month: Ramon from SSUSA NYC

Ramon only joined Street Soccer USA NYC in June 2017, but he has already proven to be one of Coach Reed’s most consistent members. Ramon is full of energy and considers himself, “a protector of the elderly.” Twice in the past week, Ramon has accompanied older friends to the hospital to make sure they were comfortable and arrived safely.

Ramon’s dedication to the program is infectious. After hearing he just missed a SSUSA van trip to an away match (because of a hospital trip with a friend), he took two buses and a train to meet his teammates all the way in Westchester County for their game–even making it on time!

“Getting to move around. I love moving the ball across the field, it’s awesome!”

What do you like most about Street Soccer USA?
“I like that it’s consistent and meets my demands in terms of athleticism. I have a lot of energy and it’s good to spread it on the field. Bouncing the ball off the walls, passing to teammates…It’s all good!”

What brought you to the shelter?
“It took me a long time to realize that it takes yourself to make yourself go. You can only make yourself go by moving. I trusted some people I shouldn’t have and so, here I am!”

What makes you the most excited about Street Soccer USA?
