UC Davis Health and the Sacramento Republic have brought their support behind Street Soccer USA because of their aligned interests to unite the Sacramento around soccer, healthy living and building an inclusive community to lift one another up.

“We are proud to support the Street Soccer program, along with our partners at the Sacramento Republic FC, because we are deeply committed to improving the health of underserved populations,” said David Lubarsky, CEO of UC Davis Health.

“We know a person’s lifetime health is determined in part by where they live, how they play, and the nature of their social relationships.    We regularly partner with others in the community, including community health clinics and federally-qualified health centers (FQHCs), to address these social determinants of health and to improve care everywhere – including providing free care via our mobile van for people at the Street Soccer event this weekend.”

“We are honored to partner with Street Soccer USA to bring the National Cup to Sacramento and support their work in providing opportunities for those most disadvantaged,” said Sacramento Republic FC President & COO Ben Gumpert.

“We believe soccer can be a powerful vehicle for positive change and there is no better example than the work Street Soccer USA is doing for our community.”

The event is free and open to the public, food trucks will be on hand on Saturday and Sunday.  MC’s will announce the games play-by-play and local DJs provide musical entertainment.

Street Soccer USA recently launched a new National Board of Directors chaired by NBC Sports Kyle Martino and announced two US Soccer Legends, Mia Hamm and Clint Dempsey as Ambassadors. The National Cup is the year’s flagship event as they continue to build city-wide street leagues across the country focused on social impact in the lowest incomes neighborhoods with youth and adults.

“The vision is a level playing for all. There is so much energy around the growth of soccer in the United State right now and the opportunity to harness that energy and use it as a transformational tool on a large scale, I think that is what brings us all together,” commented Tim Howard, SSUSA Board Member and the standout goalkeeper of the United States in the past few FIFA World Cups.
