The Opportunity: In partnership with the City of San Francisco, Street Soccer USA (SSUSA) is leading the production of the Women’s World Cup watch parties in iconic downtown locations throughout San Francisco. In addition to the live screenings, the World Cup watch parties will welcome themed food trucks, programming and activities, live music and more.

The four-game event series will host game days on July 21, July 26, August 5, and August 10, with each game live-streamed and open to the public in iconic San Francisco locations: The Crossing at East Cut, Embarcadero Plaza, and Golden Gate Park. Each activation day transforms downtown locations into exciting and active hubs, aligning the day’s featured matches with complementary epicurean, artistic, and sports-based programming. We expect the full series to draw a total of more than 5,000 visitors.

Position Summary: SSUSA is seeking an Event Director to lead the planning and production of the San Francisco Women’s World Cup Village. The Director will be responsible for all elements of designing, organizing, and executing the events, in close coordination with SSUSA, San Francisco Rec & Park, and San Francisco Office of Economic & Workforce Development (OEWD). The full-time contract position is open immediately and will conclude in mid-August.

Job responsibilities:

  • Serve as the producer of the event series, overseeing the entire pre-event, day of event, and post event process
  • Lead series planning to include but not limited to brainstorming/conceptualizing activation day offerings and schedule, contract negotiation, budget management, venue preparation, entertainment, partner activation, vendor approvals, vendor walk-throughs, cross organization collaboration, managing load-in/out, timelines/run of show, staffing and other needs identified by each event
  • Responsible for developing and managing Run of Show for each activation day, featuring World Cup live screenings and complementary cultural offerings (live music, performances, food vendors, family-friendly games and activities)
  • Organize, lead, and manage follow up from meetings with San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department, San Francisco OEWD, and other presenting partners and sponsors
  • Work effectively with community partners, including local Community Benefit Districts, to coordinate resources, vendors, and publicity for events
  • Research, solicit quotes from, and secure vendors, performers, and programmatic partners
    Prepare and secure all necessary permits
  • Attend in-person site visits, set up and break down days, and be onsite for all activation days (minimum July 21, July 26, August 5, August 10)
  • Track and manage the event budget, in close coordination with Bay Area Managing Director and National Managing Director
  • Organize and submit all vendor documentation and receipts to SSUSA to ensure payment in a timely manner
  • Serve as primary contact and onsite manager for contractors and day-of operations
  • Trouble-shoot and problem solve on activation days, as needed, to ensure the highest-quality events
  • Work with the Bay Area Managing Director and National Managing Director to solicit event sponsors
  • In close coordination with National Managing Director, design, draft, and implement a marketing campaign to amplify the opportunity to communities through the Bay Area
  • Draft and publish marketing content over event host sites, email, Instagram, and web
  • Prepare and manage paid marketing promotions
  • Manage the official World Cup SF Instagram account by creating and posting regular content leading up to, during, and following event days
  • Prepare and organize content and images for official World Cup SF website
  • Collect and record day-of sales for onsite vendors
  • Prepare and submit event work plan, event updates, and grant reports to program partners
  • Conduct post-event attendee surveys

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to be onsite on, the day prior, and the day following scheduled event days: July 21, July 26, August 5, and August 10 in addition to site visits and prep days as needed
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience leading special events, with a strong preference for experience producing events on city property and the city permitting process
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Experience fostering and building relationships with vendors implementing quality control standards to ensure the timeline and budget parameters are met
  • Provides consistent leadership and communication to their teams to ensure maximum performance and alignment on goals
  • Service oriented style with professional presentations and communication skills
  • Extremely well-organized and detail-oriented

The Event Director will be a short term contracted position beginning immediately and concluding at the end of August. Pay rate will be $5,000 to $9,000 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
